Cabinet to decide on new power tariff tomorrow (Update)
KUALA LUMPUR: The Cabinet will likely decide on the electricity tariff increase on Wednesday, an outcome which is being anxiously awaited by the industry and consumers alike.
Energy, Green Technology and Water Minister Datuk Seri Peter Chin Fah Kui said the Cabinet would discuss whether to approve the increase or hold off plans to do so.
“The paper on the tariff increase is with the Cabinet. If it approves the proposal, there is expected to be some increase; there cannot be a reduction,” he said Tuesday after attending Tenaga Nasional Bhd’s Chinese New Year open house.
Among those present were TNB president and chief executive Datuk Seri Che Khalib Mohamad Noh, and board member Tan Sri Lau Yin Pin.
Chin, however, claimed that the poor would not be burdened by any tariff increase.
